Food Allergy Testing

Food Intolerance and Sensitivity Testing

Food Allergy testingWhen it comes to food sensitivities, it is important to understand that there are different types of reactions. Often times, people may think of a person who accidentally consumed some peanuts or some shellfish. This person’s throat swells up and they can’t breathe. This is the “easy” one to see, but there are many other less subtle types of food “allergies” that are called food sensitivities or food intolerances. Unfortunately, what many don’t realize is how a food they ate yesterday is the thing that is causing them to have a migraine headache today.

Yes it’s true. A person may develop headaches, stomachaches and a whole other list of problems from eating the wrong food for them. The worst part is, many people say they try and eat only healthy foods. But, if they have an allergy or sensitivity to that food it will give them trouble. It is very possible you can be sensitive to eggs, milk, wheat, corn, apples, or even certain spices.

What is important to note is that ANY FOOD can cause ANY PROBLEM. And also, you can have a sensitivity to HEALTHY FOODS!

How the Test is Performed

Blood is drawn and sent to a laboratory that specializes in food allergy and food sensitivity testing. Once the blood is received, they introduce approximately 100 of the most common foods that people eat into the blood and determine if there a reaction to any of the foods. The test comes back and shows if you are having no reaction, a mild reaction, all the way up to an extremely severe reaction. The test is determines if you have a delayed reaction to a food. Based on the results, we will create a specific diet for you that will allow your body to desensitize from the reactive foods.  Based on the degree of intolerance, we will determine when each reactive food can be reintroduced into your diet.
