I have been coming to Multi-Care approximately 6 weeks or so. 20 years ago I was diagnosed with asthma then 2 years ago the doctors told me I didn’t have asthma – I had COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.) Just walking or trying to take a shower winded me. I try not to let COPD rule my life but at times I declined to do things with my friends because I walk so slow and have to stop a LOT to catch my breath.
Since I have begun treatment at Multi-Care I have a lot more energy, I sleep through the night and just overall feel better. However, the best thing is I can breathe better! Last night, after coming to Multi-Care a little over 6 weeks, I walked 1 and ½ miles on the treadmill. The first time I tried the treadmill I couldn’t even do ¼ of a mile and was gasping for air and it hurt my lungs. I have had my treadmill for 2 years. It has been used more in the past 5 weeks than it was combined before. Now, my new goal is to make it two miles in 45 minutes. Since I can do 1 ½ miles in 35 minutes I think this is a very realistic short term goal.
My long term goal is to prove the doctors wrong and to be able to get of all of the COPD medications.
