Diet Danger Zone

We are 3 months into 2015! How are your weight loss goals going?

It’s a story we know all too well: You pledged on New Years Eve to exercise daily, rain, sleet or snow (even buying over-priced workout clothes & shoes). You vowed to limit carbs and eat clean (the type of “clean eating” that doesn’t involve eating a doughnut while mopping the floor).

In life we all know “Stuff Happens”….like ½ off Pomegranate Passion Margaritas every Thursday (and,no,the pomegranate doesn’t add nutritional value). Oh,and yet another office birthday party with double fudge cake. You’re now on the “highway to the [diet] danger zone”!


1.  No more excuses! Look, you can either keep on making excuses about your bad eating, or you can start anew with a healthy eating plan and exercise. Skip the office birthday party and head outside for a healthy lunch break walk. Brown bag it with meals prepared over the weekend. So preparing meals from the kitchen puts you in control of your diet. Research shows that people who plan meals in advance are more likely to stay on the healthy eating track.


2.  Never start a fad diet. While it may seem like a good way to quickly take off all that unwanted weight, fad dieting often leads to “yo-yo” dieting. Yo-Yo dieting negatively impacts your metabolism and can cause you to put on more weight. So, avoid these at all costs.

3.  Don’t be afraid to ask support. No man is an island. We all need help. Find a gym buddy or hire a personal trainer. Exercise is more fun when you have someone to talk. It’s also good to have a friend with whom you can share the highs and lows. Need more support? Seek out a nutritional coach or an online support group.
